Battling Desertmartin lose out on penalties

Desertmartin 1

F.C Ballynure 1

(FC Ballynure win on penalties)

WITH the Desert team missing a few of their players due to injury they knew this McReynold Cup first round match was going to be a tough game.

The first half wasn’t an easy game to watch as both teams fought hard to get control of the ball. With a few minor tumbles it was the visitors after 25 mins who put the first goal home. Now the deserts had to waken up ad play football.

Whatever the manager Gareth Pitts said at half time to the Desert, the players came out with fire in their belly to pull the game back. Both teams fought hard and Robin Patton had two great strikes but just didn’t reach the target. It was Mark Shields who had a super strike to the back of the net that evened the score. Both teams continued to fight hard and at times silly mistakes ended at 90 mins one-all.

Extra time saw no change and the boys were feeling the strain, so it was up to both team managers to pick five to take penalties. Sadly this was not to be the Deserts day and the visitors went home the victors.

Next match is Saturday when Desertmartin play Raceview at Dromore Park, kick off 2pm.

Good win for Swifts

Desertmartin Swifts 2

Glebe 0

THE Swifts travelled to Ballymoney to take on hosts Glebe Rangers. The Swifts had to work hard to come home the winners of this match.

Darren Barlett did the Swifts proud with two super strikes ought to give the Swifts their first league victory of the season.

A good performance by the Swifts and an evenly matched Glebe team mean’t it was an exciting game.
