Dromore Amateurs 2nds travelled to Lurgan to take on Mid Ulster Division 1 high fliers Silverwood in the cup, with the hosts unbeaten so far this season.

They were to keep that run intact with a comfortable victory over Dromore who put up a spirited performance.

Dromore got off to the worst possible start when they conceded a penalty on five minutes, dispatched past Beggs with ease to the bottom corner.

Dromore didn’t drop their heads and gave as good as they got though it was all one-way traffic with the hosts having the best of the opportunities with Beggs in the Dromore goal making vital stops to keep the score at one-nil at the break.

Dromore come out stronger in the second half and started to grow into the game with the hard working midfield quartet of Hunt, Beattie, Smith and Stewart seeing more of the ball but unfortunately not able to create a clear cut chance for lone striker Lockhart up front.

On 70 minutes the game was over as a contest when again the Silverwood player went down in the box and the second penalty of the game was awarded and dispatched to make it two-nil.

Silverwood continued to create but the back four off Hill, Ward, Martin and McDowell along with goalkeeper Beggs kept it at two-nil until deep into injury time when they scored their third.

Dromore could have got a consolation with the last kick off the ball when Smith broke clear off the defence only to see his shot slide the wrong side off the post.

Manager Beggs was happy with the effort shown from his team and hopes they can get back to winning ways this Saturday when they host 4th Newtonabbey in the league 2pm kick off at Ferris Park.
