Beckett on board for night with Manchester United legend Keane

Liam Beckett - the sports commentator and columnist - has joined the team for next month's charity dinner organised by former Northern Ireland international Pat McGibbon.

McGibbon, now part of Portadown’s backroom team, will welcome Manchester United legend Roy Keane to The Armagh City Hotel on Thursday, February 4 for a gala fundraiser.

Proceeds will go towards McGibbon’s Train To Be Smart TTBS Juniors charity, a Craigavon-based football coaching project that also provides education to young people on the importance of sport for improving physical, mental and emotional health.

Beckett is on board to interview Keane then host the question-and-answer session.

“The question-and-answer session between Roy and the audience could be interesting,” said Beckett. “Everyone knows what a controversial character Roy is and there are so many topics to chat to him about, from the World Cup to Mick McCarthy to his fall-out with Sir Alex - you could spend a week chatting to him.

“It’s one hell of a gig to get and I am absolutely delighted to have been asked.”

Tickets for An Evening With Roy Keane are available from Skelton Travel in Lurgan on (028) 38 324741 at £65 per person - with the cost including a drinks reception, three-course meal and live entertainment.

Corporate table options are also available on a limited basis.

McGibbon spent time at United as Keane’s team-mate during the Lurgan-born defender’s decade-long professional career in England.

“As people who follow local football and motorcycling will know, there’s never a dull moment with Liam Beckett - and likewise Roy,” said McGibbon. “We’re delighted to have them on board, two great characters and it should be quite a combination!”
