Berry can’t wait to get started at Inver

Pre-season training can’t come quickly enough for new Larne signing Ryan Berry.

The 23-year-old midfielder may prove to be one of Tommy Kincaid’s most astute signings since he returned to the Inver Park hot-seat.

Berry, who had European experience during his four-year spell at Glentoran, is looking forward to pulling on the red shirt.

“I previously work with Tommy Kincaid when he was assistant to Roy Coyle at the Oval so I know how he works and how he likes the game to be played,” he said.

The former Glens star had another year on his contract at Ards but when Kincaid came calling he said it wasn’t a hard decision to make the switch.

“I could have stayed with Ards and had interest from Bangor and teams in the premier league, but, as I say, I was very impressed with what Tommy has planned for Larne.

“I have played at Inver Park before and was always impressed by their support and thought the club as a whole has loads of potential. They have already played in the top-flight and I believe they can do it again. It might not happen this season but, with a lot of hard work and the right mind-set among the players, I think they can do it.

“I want regular football and I think I can get that at Larne rather than maybe being on the bench at a senior club. I know Jamie Marsh and Reece Moore from my time at Glentoran but I also know most of the other players having played against them. They are a good bunch of guys and there is a lot talent in the side and I have no doubt Tommy has a few more new players up his sleeve.”

Asked about potential promotion candidates from the Championship apart from Larne Berry added: “I always believe the team who have been relegated will be strong and Carrick have added some good players including Gary Haveron and their manager Michael Hughes seems determined to go straight up again. Ards have also added to their squad and Newry who finished the season strongly will be in contention again.

“I have been working hard in the gym during the close season and although I had a few minor muscle injuries last season I can assure the Larne fans I am fit and raring to get going.”
