Best yet from Senior Park

BALLYMENA Senior Park faced a tough game in the NIPGL Senior Division 2 last Saturday when entertained fourth placed Mossley, however the Ballymena men tore up the form book when they produced their best performance of the season to record a 79-69 victory and claim 6 of the 7 points on offer.

Artie McAuley, Roy Hutchinson, George Beattie and Alex Wilson were drawn against G Bell on rink 1 and after 7 ends they trailed by 3 shots.

The Ballymena men then won the next 3 ends to open up a 3 shot lead and going in to the final end they still had 3 shot advantage, however the final end did not build well for the home rink and unfortunately they conceded four shots to leave the visitors victorious by 17 shots to 16.

Andy Hill, Gary Shaw, Tommy Hill and John Millar made a poor start against M McKernan on rink 2 and after 7 ends they trailed by 12 shots to 0.

With 16 ends played the Ballymena men were still in arrears by 9 shots, but in a brilliant finish the Braid men won the last 5 ends which included a single on the final end to claim an unexpected 21-20 victory.

On rink 3 Davy Cupples, Derek Greer, John Murdock and Arnold Kenny were tied after 9 ends against G Hall with the score 5-5.

The visitors then scored a count of 5 shots to claim the initiative, however scores of 1,3,3 and 3 saw the Ballymena men take control. The remainder of the game was close, but in the end the Braid men had done enough to keep in front as they went on to record a 21-16 victory.

There was a close game on rink 4 where Keith Burnett, Nigel McFadden, Neal Garrett and John Elliott were drawn against T O’Boyle. Scores were level at 7-7 after 8 ends and 15-15 after 17 ends, however the Braid rink finished the stronger to claim victory by 21 shots to 16.

This week Ballymena Senior Park travel to Cavehill.
