Beware complacency says boss Hamilton

“It’s going to be a tough season, no matter who we play,” he said. “Warrenpoint are an extremely fit team but if we play to our potential for 90 minutes we should be capable of getting the three points.

“We need to be in the right frame of mind. We can’t have our boys turning up thinking it’s going to be easy. We want to get our first home win of the season and get the confidence up.

“It all depends on the players’ attitudes. They need to go and give their all from the start.”

Warrenpoint have picked up one win, against fellow new recruits to the league Ards, and lost their other four league games, but having led against both Dungannon and holders Cliftonville, that record could easily have been much more impressive.

Hamilton is certainly wary of their threat, particularly from players he has previously tried to bring to Mourneview Park.

He said: “They’re very pacey and they’re fit. They’ve just come up and confidence levels will be very high so they’ve got that going for them as well.

“The three Hughes brothers are very talented. I actually tried to sign two of them and their left-winger Stephen McCabe when they were all at Newry.”

That said, there’s only one result in Hamilton’s mind. He said, “We want to win every game. We feel we’re capable of beating every team in the league.

“It hasn’t been easy for anybody this year. There have been a lot of shock results and the league is taking time to settle. This year there’s only six points separating the top and bottom teams after five games.”

Warrenpoint also feature former Glenavon and Sunderland midfielder Liam Bagnall, who joined the club after being released by Sunderland at the end of last season.
