The 23 year-old midfielder has been unable to commit to the club’s training schedule after getting a new job with longer hours.

As a result, Doherty is set to sign his release forms this week. Player manager Gary Hamilton is understandably disappointed to lose the midfielder, who came through the club’s youth teams, but understands Doherty’s other commitments.

He said: “Work comes first because players don’t get paid enough in football now. He hasn’t been able to commit to our plans the way I want my players to.

“Ciaran is one of the better midfielders in the Irish League and I’m always going to stand by that. Unfortunately his job has dictated that he may struggle to make training. I’m reluctant to let him go but I have to look at the bigger picture. If I were to keep him, it would cost me a wage that I could use for someone else who could train and be match-fit.

“We’ve said to Ciaran that he can train with us until he gets a new club. If he could get a Belfast club, where he could maybe make training after work, that might suit better.

“Whatever happens, we wish him all the best. That frees up some sort of money so I will may be able to bring in someone else.”
