Blues in sensational 7-0 thrashing of Ballymena

GLENAVON went in to Saturday’s game with Ballymena on the back of a dreadful run in the league but turned the form-book around with an incredible 7-0 win at Mourneview Park.

Skipper Brendan Shannon got through for a fifth-minute opener and Ciaran Martyn made it 2-0 after Guy Bates pounced on a mistake by Chris Rodgers.

Mark Farren scored Glenavon’s third before half-time and then former Glenavon striker Gary Liggett netted an own goal from Kyle Neill’s cross.

Marc Brown netted with a spectacular overhead kick, Neill headed in the sixth and Bates lobbed the last goal.

“Last week was the lowest point since I took he job,” said Glenavon player-manager Gary Hamilton.

“Everyone showed great desire and you have to do that in this league.

“It was night and day from the Distillery defeat.

“My target was to be clear of relegation come the split and, at the minute, we are on course to do that.”
