Blues win again as Ballymena are thrashed

GLENAVON won their third consecutive Irish Premiership match as Ballymena were sent crashing to a 4-1 defeat at Mourneview Park on Saturday.

Guy Bates ended his long wait for a goal by hitting the target twice while Kris Lindsay and Damian Martyn were also on the scoresheet.

Bates was on target in just the sixth minute as his free-kick took a wicked deflection into the net.

However, Jamie Davidson levelled for the visitors with a fine left-foot finish three minutes later.

Glenavon were playing by far the better football and they were deservedly back in front five minutes before the break as Lindsay rose highest at the back post to head home from a Niall Henderson free-kick.

The pattern of Glenavon dominance continued after the break and it was 3-1 on 52 minutes as Martyn scored following good work from Bates and Andy McGrory.

The Sky Blues tried to battle back and David Cushley had a low drive well saved by Andy Coleman, who also tipped over an Allan Jenkins effort.

Bates’ late goal ensured a comfortable victory for Gary Hamilton’s men who are now within two points of Ballymena, who lost for the fifth consecutive ti me in the league.
