Boss disappointed after away day loss

The Waterside man conceded that his side’s opening and expansive football cost them at Wilgar Park at the weekend.

“Sometimes we can be a wee bit too adventurous in our play,” stated Kee.

“We had a couple of other half chances but we have to learn from this experience and we have to start learning fast.

“If I’m to be honest I still think there has been a trend over the last number of weeks about how poor our first half performances have been and I think it’s because that we need to have a bit more beef in our play.

“The players know that, because we have spoken about it; most of the games this season in the second half we have controlled the game, but in too many cases we are playing catch up.”

Kee also admitted he thought when Stephen Parkhouse levelled things from the penalty spot in the closing moments of the game, then there would only be one winner, but that wasn’t the case.

“To get back into the game the way we did around the 77th minute, we then started to think this could make our season, but it’s just one of those things and we have to dust ourselves down and learn from it, I have certainly learned from it this week.

“You would have taken the draw at that point of the game, because of the way the game was going, but in fairness I felt we had the vast majority of the second half but they were definitively dangerous.

“They know the surroundings, they know the pitch, they know how to use it, because it is a difficult pitch, as it’s narrow and because we played quite narrow in the first half it didn’t work out as well for us, but in the second half we played a 4-2-4 formation and that worked out for us and that’s when I felt we controlled the game.”

The ’Stute gaffer felt his side controlled things after the break, but one mistake too many in the end is what cost them a share of the spoils.

“However because of some lack of organisation on our own side, they did break a few times, but that was because of our own fault, by either giving possession away or being over stretched, but I think it was a good advertisement for Championship football and yes it’s disappointing to lose.

“If we had have won then it would have opened up an eight points gap between us and Dundela, with them having two games in hand, but to be honest it’s more important to try and keep in touch with Ards, so that is a brilliant result for them.

“I think they are two games ahead of them as well, so it just adds to the importance of this weekend’s game, so we’ll have to get three points if we are to stay in the hunt of challenging for promotion.”
