Boss happy with cup progress

The Waterside men had substitute Corey Hegarty to thank for the last minute win but in truth they should have won by a bigger margin and because they didn’t take their chances Kee is slightly worried.

“We should have won by more but we didn’t and that’s a problem, we weren’t clinical enough in the last third,” he insisted.

“Some of our approach play was fantastic and we were able to retain possession a lot and peg them back and they had no real way out, that kind of suited us because when they cleared their lines they had no plans, methods or counter-attack within them and they just kicked it out and we just picked up balls, then as the game went on you could see at half-time they were starting to tire a wee bit.

“But as I said we didn’t have enough approaches to score in the second half and that was the frustrating thing.

“But we have a good attitude and good intensity and we have a good group of players who are hungry and there is good competition for places.”

Despite being disappointed that his side didn’t take their chances, Kee was pleased with a lot of aspects from Monday evening’s cup tie.

“Dean Jarvis was more like himself on Monday night, he had a lot of good offence play,” added Kee.

“I thought we had good variation from the left side and the right side and it was a match that if you were a neutral you could have enjoyed it, the only thing from my point of view is that you just want a goal to take that edge of it and you don’t want the tie going to extra-time, because we have a big game on Saturday at Newry City.

“So Corey could not have timed his goal any better and I didn’t really want the players having to work that bit extra, with the tie going into extra-time. In fairness to him he popped up well at the back post.”
