The win moved the Drumahoe club into second place in the Championship One table, nevertheless Kee felt his players dropped their standards.

“Our goalkeeper (Michael Doherty) has given them their two goals, but 12 months ago we would have lost that match,” stated the ’Stute gaffer.

“So there’s a better winning mentality and it was good to get back to winning ways after losing two games in the Craig Memorial Cup and League Cup, so by the means which we did it, I have to admit it wasn’t pretty.

“We were disappointing but the quality we have in the team. (Darren) McCauley is in top form at the minute and his offensive capabilities kept us in the game but if I’m to be honest with you other than that probably our best performer on Saturday was our left-back Colm McLaughlin.

“Everybody else could have a good look at their performance, because it was well below par, but it’s nice to be able to stand here and say we played poorly and won.”

Doherty and defender’s Matthew Crossan and Stephen O’Donnell were shaky throughout, but Kee felt it was Doherty’s display which didn’t help matters and he conceded his keeper could have been dismissed.

“Our goalkeeper was poor and in fairness they have an argument that they he could have been sent-off, because from where I was standing it was him that made the foul for their penalty and (Stephen) O’Donnell has got the booking.

“But we were hesitant, Stephen needed a run out and he’s got it, in fairness he was a wee bit tentative, (Matthew) Crossan has done OK, but when you are playing against a team who is piling a lot of balls on top of you in this league and we have to deal with it and we maybe just didn’t deal with it as well as I would have liked.

“The most disappointing thing for me was not winning the second ball, our second phase play was really poor on Saturday and that’s as poor as I have seen it.”
