Boyd excited by new challenge

NEW Coleraine signing Aaron Boyd can’t wait to get started.

The Newtownards man put pen to paper for the Bannsiders last night (Thursday) and he told Times Sport he is excited about the chalenge which lies ahead.

“I have ambitions, I want to be involved with a successful team who are doing well in the league and challenging for honours,” said Boyd.

“I know I still have to prove myself as an established Irish League player, but I want to be at a club that has that ambition and is going in the right direction.

“From what Coleraine have achieved this season and from what I’ve heard from the management and players it seems like the right place to be, and I’m excited to be here.”

Oran Kearney told Times Sport that he was delighted to finally have Boyd on board, as the player has been on his radar for some time.

“I knew of Aaron from my playing days at Linfield and he’s a player whose progress I’ve followed closely,” Kearney said.

“We missed out on signing him during the summer, but he feels he wasn’t getting a chance at Ballymena and his career was stagnating.

“He is a strong targetman, who scored a lot of goals through the ranks at Linfield and will add further strength to our options up front. He is just about to turn 21 and has the potential to be a big asset to this club.”

Boyd will be unavailable for Saturday’s visit to Solitude to play Cliftonville, but will be in line to make his debut against Carrick Rangers on January 7.
