Boyle double earns Town win

Stevie Green put the Town ahead with barely 60 seconds on the clock when he headed home a corner.

The Reds - who had won the trophy every year since the contest’s inception in 2006 - levelled early in the second-half when Gerard Reynolds pressured Stevie Greene into an own goal - a strike not too dissimilar to the goal he scored earlier.

Parity had not been restored for long before Town pulled 2-1 in front.

Gary Boyle rose highest to meet a Conor Downey cross to give the Town the lead for the second time in the game.

Conall McGrandles pounced on defensive hesitancy to square things up again and, after Cliftonville had a Darren Stuart strike ruled out for offside, the Championship 2 outfit pounced for a last-gasp winner.

Boyle once again struck from the edge of the box to finally get their hands on the Cup at the eighth attempt.

It was a deserved win for the Town. Manager Ryan Watson will be pleased that the club have finally got their hands on an important piece of silverwear for the club, named in memory of the club stalwart.

Also pleasing is the current state of the pitch, which has been maintained well over the course of the close season and allowed for some pretty football.

While there are positives, Watson may be concerned with the manner in which his side conceded Cliftonville’s two goals, but there is still time left in pre-season to iron out the creases.

- Banbridge Town have confirmed that their matchday admittance charges for the forthcoming season will remain the same as the 2012-13 campaign. It will cost £5 for adults and £3 for concessions to watch league games .
