The 52-year-old Portuguese won the title with Chelsea last season but after after nine defeats in 16 Premier League outings this term he has been shown the Stamford Bridge exit door.
Rodgers’ name is now in the frame as a possible replacement, along with Pep Guardiola, Guus Hiddink and Juande Ramos.

The Carnlough man has been out of work since October when the axe fell on his three-year reign as Liverpool boss. He was replaced by Jurgen Klopp.
He took over at Anfield in June 2012 and steered the Reds to seventh spot in his first season. He followed that up with a second-place finish in the 2013-14 campaign but last year he failed to guide the team to a Champions League place, having to settle for sixth.
Rodgers has links with Chelsea having worked as reserve team boss under Mourinho during the ‘Special One’s’ first spell at the club.
In recent weeks the 42-year-old former Ballymena United man has been linked with jobs at Swansea City and Queens Park Rangers.
