BRENNAN TURNS DOWN TOWN LOAN MOVE

Brennan, a right back by trade, tweeted last night (Monday): “cancelled my loan deal, decided to stay put. #gfc #whereibelong (sic)”

The Town are still looking to strengthen their team ahead of the closing of the first IFA Championship 1 transfer window.

They are still chasing Brennan’s team mate Joe Finlay, a pacy striker with a deadly eye for goal who could work well up front with Chris Kingsberry. He has only made one league appearance in the Carling Premiership, scoring against Dungannon Swifts, but he has made a name for himself in the reserves by scoring plenty of goals.

Both players had been given permission to leave the Lurgan Blues by boss Marty Quinn and Reserve team boss Gerard McMahon.

The Town are also believed to be looking at PSNI defender Graeme Philson, who has top flight experience with Coleraine and Limavady.

The transfer window has cause a real headache for manager Ronnie Haughey and Chairman Andrew Cully.

“The window was introduced at short notice so we have had to double and treble our efforts to bring in players before it closed,” said Mr Cully.

“We now have to adhere to the transfer window which has made it even more difficult for us, but we have until Wednesday to get the deals completed and I’m hopeful we’ll have a few new named added.”

Any new signings could make their debut on Saturday when the Town play Ards at Crystal Park (3pm).

The North Down club are one of the favourites for promotion to the Premiership under the guidance of Justin McBride.

“It will be a tough encounter for us but we’ll give it our best shot,” the Town chairman added.

“We played really well on Saturday and I was encouraged by the shift we put in.

“It wasn’t a bad game either with a few former Town players turning out for our opponents. The first half in particular was very pacy and entertaining so we will be hoping for more of the same this week.”
