BUSC claim runners-up position

BUSC warmed up for this week's League Cup final by clinching runners-up spot in Division One with a comfortable home win against Old Bleach.

The Slemish Drive team were always in command and were 13 shots clear at the interval thanks to first half wins from Richard Fleming and Andrew Bonnar, against Nigel McNally and Willie Fullerton.

Bryan Magrath's 13-7 win over Mervyn McDonald underlined BUSC's superiority but they were denied a 'clean sweep' by David Burrowes' 8-4 win over Nigel Robinson.

Elsewhere, Golf Club were in action twice last week but were unable to improve upon their sixth position in the table.

A home defeat, which yielded half a point, wasn't entirely unexpected against a Towers side who have steamrollered their way to the title.

David McCullough's 14-1 win over John Jamieson had the champions on easy street, although Fred Dawson's rink did well to claim a first half draw against Graham Maybin.

Towers pulled further away through Sammy Hall's 15-4 win over Johnny Lynn but Darren McCullough's rink didn't get it so easy, requiring a '5' on the final end to pip Kevin McGarry.

There was better news, however, for the golfers as they claimed three-and-a-half points from a home match with JTI, who finish second-bottom.

Golf Club dominated the first half, building up an 11-shot cushion through John Jamieson and Johnny Lynn's wins against Len McIlroy and Brian Russell.

But it was a different story in the second half as Timothy Rock's rink overcame Kevin McGarry 13-6, while a '3' on the last end helped Billy Lynn to a 9-9 draw with Dean Campbell.
