BUYA sides unbeaten in National League opener

BALLYMENA United Youth Academy sides made their National League debuts at the weekend and with some confident displays, all sides returned unbeaten.

In the Lisburn League the junior sides again made an excellent start with performance of the day coming from the under 12s,with a great exhibition of passing football.

Their compatriots at under 12 made a winnning debut in the Belfast and East Antrim League and the under 10’s were involved in an entertaining friendly with neighbours North End.

Ballymena’s largest mini soccer school also opened it’s doors on Saturday morning again and there was a great turn out with upwards of 70 children enjoying a great morning at the Ballymena Showgrounds.

The coaching school continues this Saturday morning at 9.30 am for 2005, 2006 and 2007 birthdays and 10.45-12.00pm for 2004 birthdays.

Away from the football best wishes and get well soon to u13 striker Lee O’Brien as he recovers from his unfortunate broken arm sustained at the weekend.

FRIENDLY

BUYA U10 3, Northend 4: In an entertaining encounter watched by a large number of family and friends both sides played some excellent football at times.

Some good displays all round but especially Robbie Richie, Robbie Gilchrist and two goals from livewire Matthew Worthington.

EAST ANTRIM LEAGUE

BUYA U-12 2, Carnmoney 1: The Academy’s latest new starts began their East Antrim League campaign in confident fashion with this encouraging win.

LISBURN LEAGUE

BUYA U11 2 , Carniny Youth 2: Carniny were dominant early on and took the lead.

United soon settled down and a Carniny foul allowed Matthew Lorimer to try his luck from a free kick from long range.The young striker stepped up with confidence and hit a fantastic dipping effort out of the reach of the keeper.

A brilliant passage of play and through ball saw Aidan Graffin run in on goal to be fouled. Matthew Lorimer stepped up to take the penalty and unfortunately rattled the bar.

More great play by the Skies and a cross into the box was deemed to be handled. Another penalty this time Trai Hume calmly slotted home.

As the referee checked for full time a foul was awarded and Carniny equalised at the death with a bouncing effort.

BUYA U-12 8, Banbridge U-12 2: Goals came from man-of-the-match Jonathan McCammond 3, Rhys Hemphill 2, Joshua Courtney 2 and Danny Louw.

BUYA U-13 1, Camlough 2: The new U13 made their debut in the Lisburn League and put on an excellent display.

A great Tyler Barr through ball sent Bell clear but he was fouled and the resulting penalty missed.

A more physical Camlough were pressing hard into the last fifteen minutes and as the Skies began to tire, two late goals were conceded but there was still plenty for the Ballymena boys to be proud of.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

BUYA U-13 2, Ballymoor 1: The Londonderry side visited the Showgrounds as United made their Natonal League debut in atrocious conditions.

Goalscoring hero on the night was returning striker Mark Cochrane with a great double, both goals set up by the skills of Jack O’Mahony with some great trickery on the right.

Cookstown U-14 1, BUYA 4: Calvin Purse produced at hat trick in the first game of the season to make a perfect start.

United dominated the first half and scored late, an incredible overhead kick from Purse found the top corner.

Good play from Cameron Neilly and Sam Armstrong allowed the latter to cross for Purse to slide in for his second.

After a great clearance off the line from McLaughlin at 2-1, it was the impressive Timms who put Purse through to slot home the third and decisive goal.

Ballymoney U-15 0, BUYA 0: This was a game the Sky Blues should have won. From start to finish they dominated the game however they failed to convert after creating some very good chances in the first half keeping the scores level.

The second half was much the same with Chris Rock heading against the bar and Peter McKane shooting wide when well placed.
