Candystripes secure narrow win
Derry City battled hard to secure a valuable 1-0 at bottom side Athlone Town, this afternoon (Sunday).
The Brandywell men had Patrick McEleney to thank for the victory, however Gerard Doherty and Aaron Barry also get a special mention for the win.
McEleney’s wonderful 35 yard free-kick on 20 minutes was enought to separate the sides, but Doherty made two outstanding saves to deny Philip Gorman and Sean Brennan, while Barry’s clearance off the line late on, meant the Candystripes went home with their first away league success of the season.
