Caoimhin gets hat-trick

A hat trick from Caoimhin McConnell and goals from Lee Bailie, Dominic McEnhill and Rhys Kelly settled Lisburn Youth Under 14’s match against Annagh.

Thomas McComb added a brilliant free kick in the Second half as Lisburn Youth U14’′s put on a display similar to Liverpool beating Arsenal 5-1.

This was a replay of the Lisburn Shield Final on New Year’s Day. In that game Lisburn didn’t get going until after half time but in this game they flew out of the traps and took the lead when Lee Bailie was left unmarked to head in from a corner.

Caoimhin McConnell got the first of his three soon after when he cut in from the left and put the ball in the top corner. It wasn’t long until he was on the score sheet again, this time a 30 yard free kick that flew in off the under side of the bar.

Lisburn continued to create chance after chance. Lorcan McIlroy should have got on the score sheet when he was straight through for a one on one with the keeper who did well to keep it out and then Ross Hull’s cross from the right was missed by everyone in the middle.

Hull then played a knee high ball towards Dominic McEnhill in the box as Annagh struggled to clear a corner. With his back to goal, McEnhill flicked the ball with his right foot into the net. An audacious effort from a very talented footballer.

McConnell was switched to the right and had a couple of chances to get a first half hat trick but couldn’t beat the Annagh keeper. He finally got the goal, to claim the match ball, just before the break. He received the ball in the inside right position and drove into the box before finishing across the keeper. Fantastic display from the tricky winger.

Rhys Kelly still had time to get on the scoresheet before the half time whistle, the shot seemed to catch the keeper by surprise and he couldn’t keep it out.

Annagh came out in the second half determined to make amends. Ryan Dowling got a strong hand to a shot that was bound for the top corner but Annagh kept pushing and got their reward.

Lisburn were disappointed not to keep the clean sheet but Annagh deserved something for their second half display.

The reaction from Lisburn was good and they started to create chances again. Lorcan McIlroy put one over from five yards out before Thomas McComb ended the scoring with a brilliant free kick from 30 yards. A tremendous display from the young lions of Lisburn. This weekend they’re in cup action against Lisburn Distillery at the Rec.
