Carlyle happy to help out

INSTITUTE’S newly appointed first team coach Paul Carlyle admits he’s thrilled to be involved with a senior club.

The former Derry City winger believes working alongside ’Stute boss Allan Blair and Head of Development Paul Kee can only help his coaching career and maybe someday he might dip his hand into the management game at a higher level.

“To be honest I haven’t really thought about it, in regards managing,” he said.

“At Maiden City we have some top class young players, who are going in the right direction to making a career for themselves, whether it will be Irish League, League of Ireland or across the water.

“But at the end of the day when someone like Paul Kee asks you to come in and give him a hand it’s nice to be asked and you don’t let him down.”

Carlyle also admitted that his appointment is only on a short term basis at the minute.

“Paul (Kee) contacted me last week and as people know I have been working with Paul for quite a while with Maiden City Soccer and before he took the job at Institute, he had commitments both on and off the field, so he asked me to come out and assist Allan over the next few weeks and I’m delighted to be here.”

The Maiden City Soccer coach was in the ’Stute dug-out for the first time on Saturday and he like everyone involved with the Drumahoe club, was thrilled by the impressive victory at Larne.

Carlyle said a few home truths prior to kick-off from himself and Blair seemed to do the trick, as the Waterside men secured only their fifth win of the season and more impressively they also had their third clean-sheet of the campaign.

“As myself and Allan said to the boys at the start you have to work hard before you want to win football matches and we have found that some of the players weren’t working hard enough.

“But on Saturday they worked well as a team and they worked hard together and you saw the end result, as apart from the goals, there was also some good play,” concluded Carlyle.
