Carlyle happy with win

INSTITUTE’S Assistant Manager Paul Carlyle was happy with not just their win over Larne on Friday night, but also in the controlled manner in which they played to claim the three points.

The Waterside out-fit were in truth on top for the majority of the 90 minutes, with keeper Martin Gallagher not having a single serious shot to save throughout the game.

“We kept a clean-sheet, we scored two goals and Ricky Lee (Dougherty) scored, it was a good complete performance,” explained Carlyle.

“We weren’t under any stress when we went down to ten men, we coped with that well, we had a really good bench on Friday night. Parkie (Stephen Parkhouse) has come on, Joe Gray was excellent and Graham Crown came on, so they are all players who have been good for us, particularly Crown over the last 18 months.

“So the fact that we still managed to keep a certain amount of control of the game even though we were down to ten men, it means it was a good night for us.

“I think even though we were down a man we still looked the more dangerous and had the better chances, in fact (Chris) Keenan made a brilliant save from Parkhouse near the end, so it has been a good night all round and in fairness it was a big result for us.”

Carlyle did concede that the dismissal of defender Dean Jarvis in the second half was the only disappointing aspect from the game.

“It’s more disappointing for him, because Dean (Jarvis) now misses a game and in fairness he just wants to play, so he’s disappointed himself. But to be fair he has been good and his performances have been excellent this season.

“He has moved into centre-half alongside Paddy McLaughlin for the last two games and he has added a new dimension to our game since moving in there.”

The assistant boss also isn’t getting carried away with the recent run of results, in fact he’s hoping everything can continue to roll on smoothly.

“We have a certain target and we are on track at the minute, but so far everything is hunky dory, but we can’t expect to get our own way all the time.

“However the team is coming together more now, there is good competition for places. Like we had to leave out young James McClay, we gave him a run out against Moyola and he did very well and he could have been easily playing against Larne, but we decided to go with the team that won the last match against Limavady United, to be fair to them.

“So we stayed exactly the same, because we want to try and get consistency in our team selection as well, because we haven’t been scoring goals, in fact we don’t have anybody with more than two goals, so that was a bit concerning for us and another reason why to stick with the same team.

“I was glad young Ricky Lee scored on Friday night, it gives him a good boost.”
