Carniny enjoy good weekend on Coast

ANOTHER two of Carniny's sides reached the next stage of the Northern Ireland Boys FA Cup when the 17s and 15s both travelled to the coast on Saturday to comfortably dispose of Portaferry and Whitehead respectfully.

In Northern Irelands ‘elite’ National League the ever improving under 13s recorded a fine away win at Newtownards to progress further up the league in what is becoming a good finish to their season.

On a sad note the under 11s and under 12s lost narrowly to St Mary’s and Dungoyne.

Carniny lost this entertaining cup tie due to a lackluster performance either side of half time on a mild morning in east Belfast. The Reds started well enough and took an early lead when Conor Doherty slotted home after an incisive pass from Cameron Neilly. Dungoyne equalised half way through the half with a superb free kick and deservedly went in front on the stroke of half time.

The second half began as the first ended with the home side looking more likely to score and Carniny found themselves two behind after another goal from a free kick. To their credit ,however, they came roaring back and completely dominated the last quarter as Dungoyne tired .Sub Jack Anderson looked dangerous as several chances were created but the second goal [an own goal] didn’t come until the last minute. Carniny came agonisingly close to forcing extra time when Bailey McNeill’s last gasp free kick was scrambled off the line.

Best for Carniny were Matthew McComb and Glenn Stewart.
