The Under 13s were in fine form last Saturday when a late flurry of goals in the last quarter of their game, saw them run out 4-1 winners against Maiden City.

Up in the North West the Under 10 Amateurs got back to winning ways when they were helped to a 6-2 win over Limavady Youth. The U10 Youths lost out to Ballymoney. The two under 9 teams were also beaten each by a single goal with the Youths impressing despite losing out to an older, strong Under 10 Bertie Peacock side.

Unfortunately there were no wins on the road for both the U14s and 16s who lost out at Ballinamallard and Magherafelt.

UNDER-9

Carniny Youth 2, Bertie Peacock’s 3: With the postponement of their original game, this friendly was arranged for the boys at late notice against a team a year older.

Carniny started well and took the lead from a throw in from Neill to Magee who lofted a pass down the line for Neill to run on to. His cross found Cameron Moody to shoot and score.

In the second half, a Carniny corner was cleared and good work from Bertie’s saw them move up the pitch and get an equaliser.

The extra strength from Bertie’s was starting to tell and Carniny were getting tired and a mix-up in defence saw Bertie’s take the lead.

Bertie’s then forced a corner, which wasn’t cleared and was scrambled in to make it 3-1.

Carniny never gave up and a perfectly weighted pass from Graham found Kennedy who kept his eye on the ball to neatly slot home to make it 3-2.

Carniny: Magee, Kennedy, Neill, Greer, Graham (capt), Scott, Courtney, Moody.

Carniny Amateurs 1, Institute 2: Carniny started slowly and Institute took advantage scoring an early goal to go ahead.

The Ballymena boys battled back and a nice pass from Ciaran McQuillan coming through from defence found Archie McGreevey in space and he slotted the ball past the keeper for the equaliser.

Again institute started the second half brighter and found the net to go 2-1 up but the boys just couldn’t find the equalising goal in a closely contested game.

Carniny: Wylie, McQuillan, Murray, McMullan (capt), Douglas, McKee, McGreevey, Strange, Graham.

Against the run of play Ballymoney made it three when the ball accidentally came off a Carniny defender and ended up in the net. Ballymoney made it four just before half-time.

In the second half Carniny pushed hard but once again Ballymoney caught Carniny on the break after McGrath in the Carniny goal had pulled off a couple of great saves.

Carniny Youth 6, Limavady Youth 2: This match started with the wee Reds on the back foot only after 4 minutes, when the colts hit a shot which went through a couple of players’ legs and into the net.

One minute later the Colts goal keeper kicked a ball up the pitch which caught out the Carniny defence and their striker knocked it in.

Carniny responded and a a flowing team move set up Harry Foster on the 21st minute to smash the ball into the Limavady net.

Four minutes later Ryan Clarke received the ball from Foster who turned a defender inside out and fired home.

Carniny went in front for the first time two minutes into the second half when Harry Foster rounded a defender and slotted home.

Ryan Clarke then added another when some great play from McKendry and Kelly on the left side of the pitch set him up to fire home Carniny’s fourth.

The team work throughout the wee reds was fantastic and led to another goal on the 37th min, when a well worked short corner between Fletcher and Clarke set Sean Condron up to slot past the Colts goalkeeper.

Harry Foster completed his hat-trick on the 46th min when some good built up play between Clarke and Dael led to a nice finish to round the game off.

A couple of changes at half time Carniny began to fire themselves up and determined to get back into the game.

Carniny really upped the pressure and the equaliser came from a ball from Joshua Courtney to Conor Stewart who found himself one on one and made no mistake.

Now Carniny’s confidence was growing and working tirelessly found themselves in front after a ball cleared from a resulting corner fell to Mark Clyde who struck a fine strike which brought a great save only for the rebound fell to Joshua Logan who tucked away.

Carniny extended their lead after a neat ball from Conor Stewart to Joshua Courtney, and the striker made no mistake with a great left foot strike which gave the keeper no chance.

Carniny wanted more and with a quickly taken corner the ball was swept home by Matthew Kirk at the back post.

Carniny Youth 0, Magherafelt Sky Blues 2: Magherafelt opened the scoring in the second half when a bad kick out from the Carniny keeper went straight to a Magherafelt player and the poor defending which followed, allowed the Magherafelt striker to score from close range.

The mid-Ulster side doubled their lead 10 mins after this when their striker was left unmarked in the penalty area and fired into the net.

Carniny tried hard to get back into the game but despite 2 free kicks from the edge of the area and a penalty claim the closest they came to scoring was a thunderbolt from Tyrone Balmer which came back off the bar.
