Carniny Youth FC round-up: Little to cheer for ‘Reds’ sides

IT was an unusually poor weekend for the Carniny ‘reds’ although some of the defeats were against league champions from the respective age groups.

On the bright side though the under 11s kept up their title challenge with a 2-1 win over Banbridge.

Taking each of the games one by one the under ten teams both lost going down 2-1 to Bertie Peacocks and 4-0 to Coleraine Academy.

The 11s reaped better rewards seeing off Banbridge 2-1 in a tough encounter whist the 13s and 14s lost to respective League Champions Armagh City and Foyle Harps.

The 12s and 15s had no games and the Football Development Centre came to an end for the Spring session.

U-10s GO DUTCH!

Carniny Youth Under 10s are entering the business end of the season with an exciting trip to Holland to play in the Leonidas FC tournament in Rotterdam.

Leonidas have kindly invited the wee reds to play in their annual competition.

This was all made possible by Carniny Youth Under 10 coach Gregory White with his contacts in Holland who then extended the invite to Ballymena United YA U12s who were happy to take up the invitation. The boys look forward to 4 days in Holland playing football and seeing the sights.

It gives the boys a real opportunity to see the Dutch style of football which is appreciated throughout the world. Hopefully they can pick up a few things from their opponents and put them into practice when they return.

After this trip Carniny Youth Under 10s have another trip to look forward to when Glasgow Rangers become their hosts which will round off a very successful year with regards to trophies and travels.

For full reports on all the weekend matches, as well as top photographic coverage, see this week’s Ballymena Times.
