Carniny Youth U-10s come out on top in ‘derby’ encounter

The Under 10s led the way with a win in a mini derby match against local neighbours Ballymena Town up in the North West and Coleraine district Youth League, coming out tops by the odd goal in a five goal match.

The Under 11s were held to a 2-2 draw against Windmill Stars in the Lisburn Youth League whilst both U12 teams had ‘free’ weeks due to the transfer tests.

The U13s had a rare chance of a home game when they lost out to their Visitors, Aquinas in the South Belfast League at Michelin. The U16s 17s and 19s all lost out to their respective opponents.

CUP DRAWS

Carniny Youth teams learned their respective fates in the NIBFA Cup and National League Cup Draws last week.

In the NIBFA Cup the Under 11s were handed an away draw to Ridgeway Rovers. Fielding two teams at U12 the Carniny FC team drew out York St Colts whilst their Youth counterparts were drawn to Banbridge Juniors. The Under 13s were given a bye in the first round.

The Under14s will play fellow national League team Dungannon Youth. The U15s also received a bye in the first round and will play the winners of Comber Rec and SOPFC in the second round.

The Under-16s were handed a home draw to Newington FC and the 17s given an away draw to another North Belfast side, Loughside.

For the National league teams the U14s will play Glentoran Academy in their first round tie in what looks to be an exciting fixture. The Under15s are away to Glenavon with the Under16s home to Portadown. The u17s were given a bye in the first round and will play the winners of Knockbreda and Crusaders.

UNDER-10

Carniny Youth 3, Ballymena Town 2: Carniny were slow to start causing them to concede the first goal 13minutes into the first half. Adger was able to equalise with only two minutes to go before the first half whistle was blown.

Straight into the second half and Adger made it 2-1 but Ballymena were quick to come back and equalise. Clarke got the winning goal from a free kick three yards outside the box.

UNDER-11

Carniny Youth 2, Windmill Stars 2: Carniny went ahead when a Windmill goal kick was returned by K McMullan with a header. The defender could only head in up in the air and Graham pounced to finish low into the bottom corner for 1-0.

Windmill were more positive in the second half and a moment’s indecision at the back for Carniny allowed them to equalise.

Carniny were ruing the first half chances they hadn’t put away when another mistake allowed the Windmill winger to steal the ball and cross into the box. Strange managed to parry the ball out but only to a Windmill striker who had an easy tap in to take the lead.

Just before the end Moody took a quick throw in and Graham went down the left to fire home a deserved equaliser.

UNDER-16

Carniny Youth 0, Crusaders 3: Carniny had their chances to take the lead in the first half but it was Crusaders who went ahead. A deep cross to the back post flew over O’Brien’s head and into the net.

Crusaders got a crucial second after a mistake in defence left them with just the keeper to beat. Carniny continued to look for a way back into the game and Henderson brought a fine save out of the Crusaders keeper. As Carniny pushed forward Crusaders got their third just before the end of the game.

UNDER-17

Carniny Youth 1, Warrenpoint Town 2: On Friday evening Carniny U17s travelled to Dungannon to play table toppers Warrenpoint in the NIBFA Subway Elite National league. Carniny started this game brightly and had a lot of possession without really troubling the Warrenpoint goalkeeper.

Midway through the first half Carniny opened the scoring when Aaron Johnston played a good ball down the right wing to Peter Rankin who cut inside managing to beat several Warrenpoint defenders before slotting his shot past the keeper.

Warrenpoint equalised when hesitancy in the Carniny defence allowed a Point player through to score.

Warrenpoint went 2-1 up when one of their players picked the ball up in midfield beating a number of Carniny players before firing a good shot past Gareth Kealey.

The second half was very even with Carniny goalkeeper Gareth Kealey again making a number of fine stops. At the other end a good move involving several Carniny players resulted in Baillie Young forcing the Warrenpoint goalkeeper to turn his shot around the post. Carniny came close to equalising when a clearance by the Warrenpoint goalkeeper rebounded off a Carniny player but the keeper was able to recover before the ball crossed the line.

With five minutes to go Warrenpoint were awarded a penalty but it was that man again Gareth Kealey who pulled off a great save. Carniny tried hard to get back on even terms but to no avail and league leaders Warrenpoint held on for a 2-1 win.

UNDER-19

Carniny Youth 2, SOPFC 6: Carniny started this match very slowly and found themselves a goal down within 5 minutes when a bad back pass was picked up by the Oliver Plunketts striker who scored from 12 yards. The game became more even after this but Plunkett scored their second following hesitancy again in the Carniny defence who failed to clear their lines. Carniny pulled a goal back when Millar scored after good work by Agnew and Carniny finished the half strongly but were unable to level the scores before halftime.

Carniny fell further behind five mins into the second half when the defence were caught out trying to play out from the back and the same thing happened 10 mins later leaving Carniny the goals to one behind.

Carniny collapsed after this and conceded 2 more goals to leave the final score 6 goals to 2 in favour of Oliver Plunkett
