Carniny Youth U-12s keep up winning run against Limavady

The atrocious weather conditions over the weekend saw the majority of Carniny Youth games postponed with only the Under 11 and 12s going ahead.

First up were the Under 12s who faced Limavady Youth for the second week in succession, this time in the NIBFA national League KO Cup.

With this game on a 4G pitch at the vale Centre on Friday evening it was never in doubt and it proved a well worth while trip when they ran out 4-1 winners this time with two braces from Lee Lynn and Aidan Graffin.

The Under 11s were not so lucky and suffered a defeat at the hands of an impressive Coleraine Academy side in the NIBFA Cup.

UNDER-11

Carniny Youth 0, Coleraine Academy 6: Carniny U11’s bowed out of the NIBFA Cup by losing away to title chasing Coleraine Academy in horrendous weather conditions.

Coleraine started brightly and with the strong wind at their backs, scored a freak goal in the opening minutes aided by the wind. Carniny rallied, but their luck was out as Adger rifled against the post.

Coleraine extended their lead to two before Carniny again were unlucky only finding the woodwork. Coleraine added a third before half time.

To their credit Carniny kept trying to play football, but didn’t convert their chances with Telford, and Reid going close.

Something which could not be said of Coleraine, who were clinical in front of goal as they added 3 second half goals, with the reds pushing numbers forward to try to rescue the tie.

Special mentions for Matthew Gregg who gave his all for the team, and Connor Friel who at times performed miracles in goals with stunning saves/handling in difficult conditions.

Carniny: Friel, Dennison (c), McAuley, Gregg, Kerr, Pogue, Adger, Reid, Telford, Johnston.

UNDER-12

Carniny Youth 4, Limavady Youth 1: This was Carniny’s third meeting with Limavady this season and with Carniny being the victors on the last two occasions, the North West side were hungry to settle old scores.

The game started with both sides creating some chances but failed to open the scoring. Graffin and Anderson forced good saves from the Limavady keeper. Mearns was busy up front and Lynn and Simpson on the wings looked dangerous and provided some good crosses. White and Anderson in midfield worked hard to contain a very skilful Limavady midfield.

Against the run of play Limavady scored first from a corner to make it 1-0.

It wasn’t long before Anderson and Graffin combined which resulted in Aidan Graffin smashing the ball into the net on the half volley to make it 1-1 just before half time.

Moore came on for Graffin at half time and showed great composure on the ball as well as some great tackling back.

The defence of Lamont, Farquhar, Robinson and Young were very tidy the whole game sweeping up any threat Limavady posed up front.

Lee Lynn then put Carniny into the lead with a 40 yard free kick that sailed in just under the bar giving the keeper no chance.

Lynn then continued his good form when put through by Nicholas Moore he made no mistake and drilled the ball into the bottom corner to make it 3-1. Carniny were now in total control and started to knock the ball round the pitch. White was instrumental in winning the ball and laying off some great passes to his team mates.

With the Limavady defence stretched it was Graffin who rounded off a great performance when he got his second and Carniny’s fourth. After sending 3 defenders the wrong way with a great piece of skill he unleashed a fantastic shot that flew into the roof of the net to make it 4-1.

This result put Carniny into the quarter final of the league cup. Carniny; McNicholl, Lamont, Simpson, Graffin, Farquhar, Robinson, White, Anderson, Mearns, Lynn, Moore, Young
