The club would like to congratulate former player Matthew Shevlin after being selected to represent N Ireland in the U18 Schoolboy squad to play in the Inspiresport Centenary Shield. Matthew played in the opening game against Scotland last Friday night and netted the only goal in their 1-1 draw in Glasgow.

UNDER-9

Carniny U9s continued this week with two teams once again in action in the IFA SSGs at the Showgrounds against sides from Ballymena and Northend. With the pitches in Coleraine for the North West League unplayable and all matches there cancelled it meant that there was an increased number of teams in Ballymena and some very strong teams this week.

Carniny Youth 2, Ballymena United YA 2: Carniny’s good football early on was rewarded when Fletcher was on hand to nod home after a slick passing move. They continued with this style of football and again undone the blues with sharp passing and movement to give Clarke the chance to score which he accepted with a rasping strike.

On the stroke of halftime Ballymena got themselves back into the game when the ball fell to Balmer who looked in an off side position but finished well and the goal stood.

Ballymena came out strong in the second half however the Carniny defence stood strong. This was until the blues where awarded a corner which cruelly deflected off the impressive Farenden and into the Carniny goal for the equaliser.

Carniny Youth 1, Rosario 6: A miserable first half saw Carniny 3-0 down and also lose Reid and Gregg to injury.

The Ballymena side’s fortunes didn’t improve much in the second period and they were 5-0 down when Pogue converted a penalty for a handball offence, but Rosario added a sixth near the end.

UNDER-14

Carniny Youth 5, St Oliver Plunkett 3: Carniny eventually got the better of a dogged Plunkett outfit in this League Plate tie.

Two early goals from Lynn settled Carniny but Plunkett kept coming back, even after further goals for Carniny from an own goal and an Anderson header before Hunter’s unstoppable shot finally ended Plunkett’s resistance and gave Carniny the breathing space they needed to claim victory.

Carniny Youth 1, Ballinamallard 5: Carniny trailed 3-0 before they pulled one back with 30 yard free kick from Eamyn Oueslati which flew high into the net but any thoughts of a comeback were quickly quashed as the Fermanagh side scored twice in quick succession.

Carniny Youth 0, Larne Youth 1: On Friday evening Carniny U17s travelled to Larne to play Larne Youth U17s in the NIBFA National League plate competition.

The only goal came from free kick from the Larne right found its way into the net but Carniny players and officials were of the opinion that Kealey in the Carniny goal had been impeded.

The second half was a close affair with Carniny playing some good football particularly along the wings but they couldn’t find the killer instinct in front of goal.

Carniny: Kealey, Hull, Lemon, McComb, McKee, Greer, Johnston, McVeigh, Doherty, McDonnell, Rankin, Holmes, Young.
