Carniny Youth under-14s enjoy Ipswich trip

CARNINY Youth FC under-14s enjoyed a memorable weekend as guests of Ipswich Town recently.

The Carniny travelling party met early last Friday morning at the International airport and after a short flight were met at Stansted airport for a coach transfer to the top class Ramada hotel in Ipswich.

The group enjoyed a lunch and then visited the Portman Road ground, the boys visited the club shop and then toured the ground and took a photo opportunity in the away dressing room with Millwall staff. This would prove to be a “lucky” omen for the Millwall team!

Friday evening saw club compere Billy O’Flaherty host a quiz in which the team from the Ballymena Academy School triumphed. This was followed by an evening out at the cinema.

On Saturday morning the boys attended the state of the art Ipswich academy and were coached by academy manager and ex-Northern Ireland International Sammy Morgan under the watchful eye of former Carniny player Josh Carson.

After the session they enjoyed the facilities and watched the academy teams play Watford. The boys then travelled back to Portman Road, where Millwall beat Ipswich 3-0. A consolation for the defeat was the introduction of Josh in the second half who gave a good performance to make the Carniny boys proud.

On Sunday the boys played Woodbridge Town and enjoyed the facilities afterwards. On a sad note Carniny player Owen McCartney suffered a recurrence of a recent injury and the club wish him a speedy recovery.

The boys flew back home on the Sunday night with a great insight of life at a professional club.

Carniny and in particular under 14 coach Lee Barry would like to thank Sammy, Josh and all at Ipswich Town and Woodbridge Town and look forward to welcoming Sammy and the Ipswich team over for the forthcoming Milk Cup.
