Carniny Youth work brings silverware at adult level

THE hard work put in by Carniny Youth FC since its inception a decade ago bore fruit on Saturday when the club's adult team, Carniny Amateurs, won the Linda Welshman Memorial Cup (see page 54).

What makes this achievement even sweeter is the fact that 11 of the squad of 15 players all started as 10-year-olds with the club during its formation in the year 2000.

Meanwhile in the youth section, the 16s drew 2-2 against top of the table Ballyclare Colts in the National League as the 15s went down 3-0 away to Dungannon Swifts in the same elite league competition.

The 14s travelled to Fermanagh to take on Ballinamallard and came away with maximum points following a 3-2 victory, while the 13s will feel somewhat hard done by in going down 3-1 to Crusaders when a draw would have been a fair result.

As the 12s and 10s went down to Lisburn Youth and Crusaders respectively the 11’s defeated Bloomfield 4-3 and the 9s drew with Eglinton.

Carniny 2, Eglinton 2: Carniny should have had three points when they gave up a two goal lead with only five minutes in the game to go.
