CARRICK RANGERS: Additional drainage to be fitted at Taylor's Avenue pitch

New drainage is to be installed at Carrick Rangers' pitch in a bid to alleviate the waterlogging problems which has plagued the club's Premiership fixtures programme in recent months.

Carrick haven’t played at their Taylor’s Avenue home since a 2-2 draw with Ballymena United on October 31. Since then, the pitch has been declared unplayable seven times, causing a fixtures backlog.

Additional drainage is now planned to be fitted at the Belfast Loughsore Hotel Arena before their next scheduled home game against Coleraine on January 23.

Speaking to the Times on Tuesday, councillor Andrew Wilson, chair of the Operational Committee at Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, said: “At the meeting last night there was an agreement to put in an additional drain costing £1,200. This is what we are doing in the short-term to get things going again.”

He added that this would happen in ‘the next nine or 10 days’ before Carrick’s next home game.

Councillor Wilson also revealed there is ‘£40,000 in the estimates to do more work on the pitch’.
