Currie was delighted with Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Dergview, secured thanks to goals in either half from Chris Rodgers and Stewart Nixon.

The result moves Carrick up to fifth but crucially they are level on 22 points with third placed Portadown and Currie believes they can continue to climb the table.

“Saturday was a great day for us,” said the Carrick manager, “Against a team and at a place that is so hard to get points from, our effort levels all over the pitch were fantastic and the boys got their just rewards.

“If we can get that level of energy most weeks we will be okay. That’s always the problem with a newly built squad.”

Rodgers had headed Rangers in front from Mark Surgenor’s cross and while it took until the 90th minute for Nixon to rubber-stamp the victory with a fine, low finish, Carrick were well worth their victory.

But despite his satisfaction at the display, Currie insisted no one at Taylor’s Avenue would be getting carried away.

“It’s about consistency,” he added, “We have a good bunch of lads here and all we are asking of them is to put in honest shifts. For most of the season we have got that, so we need to keep our heads down and take things one game at a time.

“We know in this league that a defeat can happen on any given Saturday so, as always, we will focus on our own performance against Knockbreda.”
