Carroll nets hat-trick as Barn U16s hit Rovers for six

Barn United’s Under-16s hit their Antrim Rovers counterparts for six at Three Mile Water on Saturday.

Goals from Jack Leahey (two), Ben Johnston and Lindsay Carroll (three) saw them ease to a 6-2 win.

The strikers took the chances early on to put Barn 3-0 up at half-time. There were some outstanding performances, but Man of the Match goes to Carroll, who scored a hat-trick.

Barn U16s: Thomas Hamill, Jody Gaw, Tony Lunn, Jack White, Ryan Topping, Ryan Bell, Ben Johnston, Stuart McKee, Jack Leahey, Lindsay Carroll, Scott Quiery, Ross Mahon, Josh McMeekan, Callum Baxter.

Meanwhile, Barn United Young Men defeated Bangor 5-2 in a first-round Cup game at Woodburn.

Right from the start Barn had the visitors on the back foot and had forged a two-goal lead with just 15 minutes were on the clock.

Willy Glass headed the home team in front before setting up Nathan Long who drilled his shot home from the edge of the area.

Barn’s third goal came when the industrious Steven Lynch made room for himself in the box to shoot low and hard into the bottom left-hand corner.

Bangor were given the opportunity to get themselves back into the game when the referee awarded a penalty for hand ball. They made no mistake from the spot, bringing the score back to 3-1 before half-time.

In the second session it wasn’t long before the impressive Glass doubled his tally, ghosting between two defenders and chipping the over the keeper to put Barn 4-1 up.

Bangor pulled another goal back when a shot from the edge of the area was deflected into the Barn net.

But United’s superiority was reinforced when James Wilson fired home the rebound after Glass had waltzed around a couple of defenders before rattling the post.

This was a well well deserved win for Barn Utd Young Men who’s 100 per cent effort and commitment helped them progress to the next stage of the competition.

There were a number of contenders for Man of the Match, all of the back four, Neill Bradshaw and Steven Lynch in midfield, but with two goals and perhaps his best display of the season, it was awarded to Glass.
