The game was clearly going to be a battle with chances in front of goal going to be few. Midfield saw a lot of the possession and Celtics trio of Adam Henderson, Cian France and Curtis Roberts controlling much of the game. Celtic suffered a blow just into the second half when they lost their top goal scorer Curtis Hallissey to injury. An injury he suffered mid week but true to the spirit of this team he wanted to play and he certainly caused the Ports a lot of problems in the first half.

Celtic brought on Ronan Leathem and with a few tactical changes which saw Ryan McIlroy move into the right wing and straight away he made a impact taking the game to Portadown. Celtic started to get a foothold of the game with Rioghan Crawford, Gerry Downing and Ryan Mc Ilroy causing the Ports defence all sorts of problems.

Celtic took the lead with twenty minutes to go when Rioghan Crawford’s touch hit the Portadown defender and the ball finished up in the bottom corner giving the Portadown keeper no chance. Portadow pushed for the equaliser but the Celtic defence were in no mood to give away anything today clearing everything that Portadown threw at them. The final whistle blew and nobody could argue the best team won. Management would like to congratulate Portadown who have had a great season themselves winning the league and shield double. this was a superb performance and the game was played in the spirt it should be played hard but fair.
