Celtic defeat United at Wilton Park

Churchill United...0Dungiven Celtic...2

WATERSIDE out-fit Churchill United played host to Dungiven Celtic on Saturday, in decent conditions for a game of football.

From the whistle Robbie Godfrey got at the left back and cut the ball back from the touchline for Richard Dunlop who shot over the crossbar. Almost straight away Dunlop played a lofted pass over the centre back but Cathal Deery shot over.

Dungiven then put together a spell of possession and had two shots from distance which were comfortably dealt with by United's Dermot Brown.

He was then called into action again shortly after when he had to make a good save after a mishit clearance by Brian Devine.

Churchill's next chance came from a Paul McColgan clearance, the Dungiven centre back allowed it to bounce and Deery put him under pressure and he gained possession before squaring for Simon Morrow who had his shot cleared off the line.

In a pretty uneventful first half Dungiven controlled most of the possession but lacked a cutting edge and it was Churchill who had the better of the chances.

In the second half the match followed a similar pattern, Dungiven kept the ball well and troubled Brown on several occassions but he was more than equal to it.

Paul McColgan's side still looked dangerous on the break and they thought they should have had a penalty when Godfrey got past his marker again and cut into the penalty area before being bundled over only for the referee to wave play on.

Godfrey caused the Dungiven back four problems all day and set Morrow free who got close to the byeline and crossed but Deery couldn't get on the end of the cross.

Dungiven then took the lead with 20 minutes to go, the Dungiven sub was played in on the break and got into the box before setting up a team mate who couldn't miss from eight yards out.

Churchill tried to push to get the equaliser but the more they did the more the game got stretched and this suited Dungiven whose fitness told in the final stages of the game and they doubled their lead.
