Collins rules out McCourt return

Derry City manager Roddy Collins admits he would need to win the lottery if they were able to bring fans’ favourite Paddy McCourt back to the Brandywell.

The talented winger, who has been released by League One side Barnsley, sparking rumours a return to the Candystripes could be on the cards.

However, Collins feels that the Northern Ireland international should move to America.

“It’s not going to happen. Not unless I win the lotto myself,” joked Collins.

“Paddy’s future is at a much higher level, no disrespect and he’s done his bit for Derry, he’s done his bit for me, so now he has to do his bit for his family.

“I would say Paddy going to America, it would be a fantastic move for him, it would set him up financially for life, he has young children, a great wife and he’s from a great family.

“I’m not saying we won’t see Paddy at the Brandywell supporting us, please God, he will come and support us, I would love that.

“That would give me a lift to see Paddy McCourt at the Brandywell as a supporter and giving us the thumbs up, but jokes aside Paddy is for bigger things.”
