FORMER Derry City favourite Paddy McCourt, who is currently training with Scottish Premiership side Hibernian, could be following in David Beckham’s footsteps and joining LA Galaxy.

It thoughts Galaxy, along with San Jose Earthquakes and Portland Timbers are all monitoring McCourt’s current situation.

The 29-year-old, who is a free agent after he left Celtic at the end of the season, has held talks with Championship side Millwall and League One out-fit Peterborough United, but he’s still not signed for anyone and a short term deal prior to next season’s Major League Soccer starting is something which the Northern Ireland international is thought to be keen on.

With the MLS campaign ending in October, it’s believed that the player is happy to wait for the start of next season.

“It’s always been the intention to go to America,” stated his brother and agent Leroy McCourt. “It’s 99 per cent nailed on that he’ll go over there. He doesn’t want to uproot his family at this stage of the season over there.”

McCourt has been training with Pat Fenlon’s team, a boss who he has already played under when the duo were at the Brandywell.

“It’s really just to keep his fitness up, he knows the manager (Pat Fenlon) from their short time together at Derry. He’s just been in today to have a look around and do a bit of training.”

The talented winger was left out of Michael O’Neill’s 20 man squad for next Wednesday night’s World Cup qualifier against Russia.

However duo Danny Lafferty and Shane Ferguson are both in panel, along with ex-City winger Niall McGinn.
