Chairman delighted at Farren signing

GLENAVON chairman is delighted at the signing of Derry City striker Mark Farren

Teer is also hoping that the team’s advances in playing staff will increase supporter involvement in off-field schemes such as the Mourneview Needs You fundraiser.

“The signing of Mark Farren is a statement of intent by the manager and the board to strengthen the squad and attract the very best players available within the club’s budget and the IFA’s agreed salary cap,” he said.

“Hopefully this signing and others over the close season will encourage more supporters to participate in the club’s various fundraising activities. Mourneview Needs You is the most obvious because it is tailored to suit everyone with an income. We had a leaflet drop about MNY at last Saturday’s game.

“However the board would also appeal to supporters to consider becoming involved in:

- the various home match-day sponsorships - match/ball/man of the match. - either individually or collectively

- the “Friends of Glenavon Century Club” - the 2012/13 version of which has just been announced

- the players’ shirts sponsorship scheme organised on behalf of the board by the Victoria Supporters Club

- the sponsored walk being organised for Saturday September 22, the morning of our home game with Linfield.”

The chairman continued “All of these fundraisers provide essential, relied upon financial backing for our club. The success of each of these is absolutely crucial if Glenavon is to achieve its projected level of income for the season, meet the stringent financial requirements of the IFA’s Domestic Licence and be able to maintain its place in the IFA Premiership.

“Irish League football is a very difficult financial proposition just now . We need everyone at our club pulling together, doing their utmost to get us through these recessionary times and also backing the manager and the board with enthusiastic and energetic support in every sense.”
