Larne completed their league programme on Saturday at Coagh United where an uninspiring performance from the Reds saw them come from a goal down to earn a point in a 1-1 draw.

It was a welcome finish to a disappointing end to the Championship 1 season for manager Davy McAlinden.

“At this minute I can honestly say I am glad this run of meaningless games is now over and we can start to focus on next season. I had praised the players a lot when we were on a good run and yes looking back we could have done some things better,” said McAlinden.

“We now need to build a squad that is capable of competing at the top end of the season especially when people have worked so hard to get a domestic licence. We want people at the club who want to be part of Larne for the right reasons and if I am playing meaningless games at the end of next season I will be disappointed.”

Coagh’s James Ferguson gave his side the lead with a 12th-minute penalty after the referee adjudged Darren McNamee to have handled the ball in the area.

Ten minutes after the break Larne went a man down when Ross Black deservedly received a second yellow for a lunging tackle.

But with 20 minutes left Larne were back on level terms. A quick free kick from Caolan Gillan found Maguire who slipped it past William Hassan in the home goal.
