Cairns - who is in his 30s and once played for Glebe’s local rivals Ballymoney United - comes in to replace Gareth Montgomery who resigned last week.

Club secretary Jackie ‘Tory’ Morrison said last week Montgomery left to concentrate on a new business venture but was also frustrated at the recent poor run of results.

Montgomery had only been with the club since the summer.

Results have been poor recently, however,Cairns is aiming to turn things around now he has returned.

He told the Times last week, before Saturday’s game with Chimney Corner: “I’m delighted to be back. I never wanted to leave but that was due to work circumstances but they are different now.

“Looking at the league position the aim is to get some results and get points on the board.

“There has been a lot of turmoil at the club with me leaving in the summer and then Gareth leaving but I hope I can lift the squad.”

Peter told how as soon as he was confirmed as the Glebe boss on Monday night that he hit the phones straight away in a bid to strengthen the squad.

He said: “The players we have can do a job but we need a wee bit of depth because there are going to be times when we are down to the bare bones with injuries.

“I was on he phone to Oran (Kearney) at Coleraine as they are pushing out their young Reserves players to get experience at Championship level until the end of the season,” said Cairns.

Cairns first joined Glebe as manager in December 2011. He has a strong footballing pedigree and was with Swindon Town as youth team player when they were riding high in the mid-1990s.

He displayed his managerial credentials with Riada Rangers in the Coleraine and District League, winning a league title and reaching a cup final.

Cairns had left school in Ballymoney as a teenager at 16 and moved to England where he spent nearly three years at Swindon Town on a YTS scheme.
