CHAMPIONSHIP TWO: Eight goal thriller in derby tie

Both sides went into the derby on the back of defeats, so both managers were eager to get three points in the bag.

It was a tale of players scoring against their former clubs.

Portstewart forward Ryan Tannahill grabbed two against his old side, while at the other end Glebe’s James McLaughlin hit the sucker punch in the final minutes of the game to deny Portstewart a win.

Portstewart took the lead in the first minute when Ryan Tannhill lobbed the ball past Forgrave in the Glebe goal.

Glebe equalised soon after when a goal mouth scramble saw Adam McCart on the score sheet.

Ian Todd put Portstewart in front again when he got on the end of a James Peden corner. It was end to end football, with both sides playing some good football. Ryan Tannhill grabbed his second and Portstewart’s third ten minutes from the break, but Glebe weren’t to be out-done and a defensive slip saw Glebe grabbing a second through Lynch to leave the score 3-2 at the break.

Glebe threw everything at the visitors in the second half and their efforts paid off when they equalised through Ian Parkhill. Owen Moody should have put the Ports ahead again, but his effort found the wood work.

Portstewart grabbed their fourth through a deflection. Moody’s effort hit off Glebe defender Alan Shepherd and passed Forgrave in the Glebe goal to see Portstewart go 4-3 in front.

Glebe didn’t give up and worked hard in search of an equaliser. James McLaughlin was the man of the moment in the dying minutes of the game when he beat Madison in the Ports goal to make it 4-4.
