CHAMPIONSHIP TWO: No excuses from Cairns as Glebe share the spoils

It’s fair to say that Glebe dominated the tie from start to finish, but the 1-1 scoreline signified what Glebe boss Peter Cairns had been fearing - the cost of missed chances.

Adam McCart opened the scoring when he hit home five minutes from the break.

Before that Tommy Elder had a number of chances saved by the in-form Moyola keeper.

The second half was a different affair.

An upbeat Glebe side returned to the field in search of more goals and the all-important three points.

When there was a hand ball on the line by a Moyola player, Glebe felt that they would have the tie wrapped up. However, Elder’s spot kick was saved, and after that the ten men of Moyola pulled a goal back to leave the score 1-1.

Glebe battled hard and were camped out inside the Moyola 18 yard box, a string of saves from the Moyola keeper kept the score level and the game ended 1-1.

Glebe boss Cairns was disappointed by the result.

“We dominated the game from start to finish, yet they had one shot on goal and they scored.

“I knew we would have a game like this, we had been creating so many chances in recent weeks and not putting them away - it was always going to happen.

“In the second half I think nearly every player on the pitch had an effort, but I am making no excuses, if you don’t take your chances then you can’t expect to walk away with three points,” said a down beat Cairns.

Glebe have no game this Saturday due to Steele and Sons fixtures.
