Charity football tournament in aid of Relay for Life set to kick off

THIS year’s charity football tournament for Banbridge Relay for Life for Cancer Research gets underway next week.

What started out as a friendly game between two local clubs to raise funds for the charity in 2007 has now expanded into an Annual Football Tournament with two additional teams added in 2008.

The format of the Tournament was kept simple; two semi finals followed by a final.

For 2012 organisers have added two further teams to the lineup meaning there will be two preliminary ties on Monday July 9, when Scarva Rangers will play Moneyslane, and Tuesday July 10, when Banbridge Town meet Seapatrick, with the winners advancing to semi finals on Monday July 16 - when the winner of Scarva v Moneslane will play Banbridge Rangers, and Tuesday July 17, when the winners of the other preliminary game shall play Dromore Amateurs, with the final played out on Thursday July 19. All of the games will be played at Cheney Park and officiated by referees from various Leagues across Northern Ireland.

The six teams taking part this year are holders Banbridge Rangers, last year’s runners-up Dromore Amateurs FC plus Scarva Rangers, Seapatrick, Banbridge Town and Moneyslane.

And at the end of it all there’s only one winner - Cancer Research UK.

All proceeds from the Tournament are being donated to the Banbridge Relay for Life for Cancer Research UK and the organisers would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us so far this year. If there are any individuals or businesses that would like to help out in anyway then can contact Basil Brown (07738242000) or Adam Topping (07763907454).
