Cherry marks debut with quick-fire goal

Summer signing Kyle Cherry took just 72 seconds to net his first goal for Carrick Rangers in Tuesday night’s 3-1 League Cup first-round victory over Coagh United.

Cherry, brought in from Championship 1 rivals Dundela, got the ball rolling early on for Gary Haveron’s men at Hagan Park, while nother ex-Duns man, Ben Roy, added a second 11 minutes after the interval.

United’s Andrew Kelso pulled one back shortly after the hour-mark, but it took just two minutes for Rangers to formulate a response with Jody Lynch finding the net for number three.

Carrick will find out who they will face in round two of the Wasp Solutions League when the draw is made this evening.

Carrick Rangers: Neeson, Smyth, O’Kane, Donaghy, Taggart (McKenna 76), McCann, Kane, Cherry (Kelly 76), Roy, Lynch, Davidson (McCloskey 57). Subs not used: Mills, Arthur.
