A hat-trick from Danny Morrissey along with Ciaran Kilduff’s sublime chip, saw Stuart Ashton’s side race into a four goal lead, before Rory Patterson scored his 23rd goal of the season in the closing minutes.

However despite the score-line the Brandywell men know that the turning point in the match came on 47 minutes when at 1-0 to the Rebel Army, Patterson looked to have earned his side a clear-cut penalty.

The striker got in behind Dan Murray and just as he was about to fire towards goal he looked to be pushed to the ground by Cork right-back John Dunleavy inside the box, but referee Sean Grant, who did take a look over at his assistant, waved away City’s protests.

To be fair, the home side’s strike force of Morrissey and Kilduff looked a threat throughout, while Daryl Horgan, Shane Duggan and Gearoid Morrissey were also impressive in midfield and the combination of top quality finishing and poor defending meant the Brandywell men went home point-less.
