The Brandywell men were terrible throughout and Roddy Collins’ team selection and formation looked like they were happy for a share of the spoils right from the off.

Unfortunately the Candystripes’ miserable night was compounded up when Ryan McBride picked up a serious head injury, following a terrible challenge by Patrick Hoban. The injury in the first half lead to a 12 minute stoppage as the City defender received treatment before he was stretched off and taken to hospital.

Hoban, who had earlier received a yellow card for a late challenge on McBride, was very late again and clashed heads with the centre-back but incredibly he wasn’t dismissed by referee Tomas Connolly.

After the break it was Stepen Kenny’s side who dominated things and goals from Brian Gartland, Richie Towell and David McMillan ensured they deservedly collected the points.
