Cloney are Swiftly dealt with

A blistering start saw Rangers take a 3-0 lead after 14 minutes which left Cloney shellshocked with the potent strikeforce off McCahon and Wilson both managing to get on the scoresheet as they have done in every game so far this season.

Banbridge Rangers took the game to Cloney early on and opened the scoring after four minutes when a floated ball over the full back dropped to Stuart Cairns who carried the ball into the box in his stride before striking low into the far corner off the net.

Rangers were gifted their second goal on 11 minutes when the Cloney keeper rolled the ball out in front off him to kick but slipped in the run up leaving John McCahon the simplest off tasks to walk the ball into the net unopposed.

Three minutes later McCahon almost had his second off the day when he rounded the keeper but was forced to the byline and instead off cutting in to shoot he lifted the ball back to the six yard box for his partner Neil Wilson to head acrobatically into the open net.

Rangers took their foot off the pedal and Donacloney grabbed a goal back just after 20 minutes with a through ball catching out the back four.

Banbridge Rangers thirds moved 4-1 ahead after John McCahon found himself in a primed shooting position and beat the keeper to leave a tap in after the ball rebounded off the inside off the post.

Two minutes before the half McCahon was the recipient off some very good football in the middle off the park from Rogers and Chievers and curled in from the edge off the area to put the game out off sight by the interval.

Donacloney Reserves showed a lot more fight in the second half and matched Rangers all over the park and created the better chances with keeper Ryan Burns pulling off some very good saves to keep Cloney at bay.

On 50 minutes some hesitation by Beattie was capitalised upon and Donacloney reduced the deficit to three goals but it stayed this way until the final few minutes off the game when substitute Davy Ogle fired home from six yards to score his first goal on his senior debut for Rangers.

After the result on Saturday Donacloney Reserves will now get a second shot at cup action by qualifying for the Reserve League Cup whilst Banbridge Rangers Swifts move into the last 16 of the O’Hara Cup.
