'˜Cloney defeated at Hillsborough Boys get their revenge

Second placed Hillsborough Boys gained revenge on Saturday over a Donacloney side who took a dramatic win the previous week.

Donacloney’s only change from their dramatic penalty win over the same side the week before, was Davy Sterritt coming in for Steven Leckey.

This time the game between the side was in the league in a Division 3 match and was played at Aghalee.

Hillsborough struck first with a lofted ball over the defence, capitalised on by the left winger who finished expertly leaving Derek Curran with little chance of saving the superb shot.

‘Cloney equalised when a drilled ball across the box was latched on to by Chris Shields who forced it over the line.

Hillsborough then took the game to Donacloney with Davy Sterritt the key man in midfield keeping the scoreline level.

Two well taken set pieces gave Hillsborough a 3-1 lead.

Darren Brooker struck a free-kick that had too much behind it for the home ‘keeper to hold on to.

Meanwhile, Dave Watterson was on hand to poke it over the line to make it 3-2 and set up the remainder of the game.

Gary Knox then had the best of the ‘Cloney chances to try and equalise, heading just over.

Donacloney Firsts team were;

Derek Curran, Jason Stokes, Damien Higgins, Dave Watterson, Tim Carson, Davy Sterritt, Johnny Brown, Danny Read, Darren Brooker, Ben Nelson, Chris Shields. Subs; Kiefer O’Boyle (replaced Sterritt), Gary Knox (replaced Brown).

Donacloney Reserves game at home to Banbridge Town AFC Reserves was postponed last weekend.

The Firsts face high flying table toppers Caledon Rovers at home on Saturday while the Reserves are away to Donaghmore Reserves in Reserve Division 3.
