Coaches update first-aid training

At Lurgan Town FC player and spectator safety is paramount so coaches from all age groups recently updated their resuscitation and first aid skills at the clubhouse.

The session was delivered by Sean Cartmill from the cardiac department at Craigavon Hospital.

First up was how to deal with the collapsed person then what to do in the event of cardiac arrest.

The coaches didn’t just get to sit and listen as they had to show they knew what to do by demonstrating their skills on dummies under Sean’s critical gaze. All the boys came through with flying colours.

Next was an update and practice sessions on the use of the club’s defibrillator followed by a talk and discussion on dealing with choking, head injury, suspected fractures and bleeding.

The evening was interactive and enjoyed by all. Hopefully these skills won’t be needed anytime soon but in sport and life emergency situations do occur and knowing how to respond can make a critical difference.
