Coagh fail to take chances

In the battle of last season’s promoted clubs Dundela came out on top with a convincing performance while Coagh, who played a big part in this excellent and entertaining match for the spectators, will be cursing their missed chances in front of goal.

This match was preceded by a minutes silence for Prison Officer David Black from Cookstown who was brutally murdered last week.

Things started to go wrong for Coagh even before the match started. James ‘Spitfire’ Ferguson limped off after the pre-match warm up while the injured Aaron Campbell sat this one out. Coagh’s management called up Mattie Kempton and Stephen Glasgow to the bench.

Dundela took the field with a few changes from last week’s defeat to Ards. Goalkeeper Johnny Sergeant was rested in favour of Paul Hughes. Obviously Manager Mark Snodden concerned at the number of goals being conceded also decided to bring in Kyle Alexander for his first start and also recalling David Hume.

Dundela took the lead early in the game through the now prolific Ben Roy. Roy found plenty of space down the left hand side to blast home an unstoppable shot against Johnny Yorke. Coagh’s best chance of the half fell to Glenn Clarke but the striker got the ball stuck under his feet and the chance was lost. Before the break Dundela’s William Faulkner struck with a blistering strike to give his side the advantage at the break.

Coagh had a go from the start of the second half but their threat never came to anything as the visitors closed up shop at the back. Steven Park, Scott McCordick and Marcus Dallas put half chances over the bar. Dundela lost winger Gary Irwin had to be replaced through injury but they never lost their shape and eventually added to their tally when sub Scot Collins blasted an unstoppable effort in from well outside the area. Coagh brought on Kempton, Glasgow and Taylor and threw everything into the attack. Mattie Kempton had an effort cleared off the line while Jason Gillespie and Scott McCordick had two efforts just over the bar.

This Saturday Coagh travel to Loughgall for a League fixture. Supporters should note this match kicks off at 2pm.
